Whales Whisper

Looking at the archives at the Providence Public Library, I came across whaling logbooks that whale hunters kept throughout their journeys. These logbooks describe whales captured and missed, shipwrecks, and nautical misfortunes. There are multiple records of what sailors had to say, but not a single record from a whale’s perspective. For sailors, the sea is a force they need to tame, and for whales, it is their home. There aren’t many whales left in the area, and many species are endangered. In this piece, I imagine what stories whales tell each other; I think they whisper to not be heard by humans.
